Kris G asked:
I would like to find one that has good techniques to put the fight (as most of tai maga or Krav), good ground techniques (such as the Jiu Jutsu), and good passive techniques (like Aikido). Is there a martial art that covers all these bases? I don 't think I have time to become expert in three different arts.

I don’t think you are going to find one that will fit all of those, because each martial art form has a different focus or type of fighting. I think you should pick one that interests you the most, and that you feel you will be able to meet your goals in the timeframe you want…(ie-Ying Jow Pai takes years, and there is no “black belt” so you could be the same level for several years, or you could do Tae Kwon Do and make Black belt in 2 years). I will say that Tae Kwon Do is a good base for most martial arts, as it will help you obtain your flexibility and basic stances that will help you with other arts.

My husband began taking Tae Kwon Do and Jiu Jitsu (offered at the same studio on different nights) just after Christmas. He has really enjoyed it and has greatly increased his strength and flexibilty even in just this short amount of time. He likes to say, “I could kick someone in the face now, if I wanted to.” (He wouldn’t hurt a fly!)
Anyway, I would suggest finding somewhere that offers more than one type of class so you can try them out and then focus on the one that you like best.

Karate is the more basic of the arts.
It is very good if you have never learned any others before. It will give you a leg up if you take tae-kwon do.
tae-kwan do is a little more advanced, but not too hard.
Jujitsu or Judo would be the more advanced levels , if you really like it. Also, they wil be more difficult to learn as a beginer.
also, a slower pace, believe it or not, tai chi, is also a martial art.
this was the order my dad taught me. He has been performing martial arts for more than twenty years and has several black belt awards in different arts.
hope i was a help and not a hinder.
good luck and remember, dedication brings the best result.
have a great day.

Try Jeet Kune Do. It was a concept and martial art created by the great Bruce Lee. As you probably know from watching his movies, it has a great stand up offense and defense and teaches take downs and a few flips as well. But most of it is stand up.

Dont listen to people saying Tae Kwon Do its a crap art honestly. If I were you Id srtick to either Muy Thai (Wrong Spelling I know) or either Brazillian Jiu-jitsu/Judo. Id pick Judo because it covers both griund and standin techniques at an extremely reasonable price normally.
